An Attitude of Gratitude - Thanksgiving Reflections

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~ John F. Kennedy

I can practically smell the delectable scents of pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and turkey as this next week approaches and Thanksgiving is upon us. All food-related celebrations aside, however, this holiday is also a perfect opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful, fortunate things filling our lives, and I have a lot to be grateful for. Today, I am beginning my Thanksgiving celebrations a bit early, and taking this opportunity to reflect on a few of those things!

Painting has always been an extremely important part of my life, and I am so grateful to now have the opportunity to pursue my passions as a professional artist. From my first introduction to painting in a classroom at age 12 through courses in college and my first career in graphic design, art has always held a special place in my heart. Life’s twists and turns took me away from pursuing this passion for a while, as I followed a career path that took me away from my creative journey. Although I spent years away from professional artistry, I’m very grateful for all the experiences made possible by my diversified careers. This work made it possible for me to travel across the globe, opening my eyes to a multitude of cultures, landscapes, and animals. Many of these sights and treks became the inspiration for my subsequent paintings, and helped open my eyes to the beauty in the world. For these reasons, I am incredibly grateful for these travels and experiences!

I am also immensely thankful for the fact that I have now found my way back to my creative pursuit and my lifelong passion of being a professional artist. The journey leading here has been long and full of surprises, but I am brimming with gratitude. There is nothing more fulfilling for me than picking up a brush and my canvas, full of rich and vibrant colors, to create something unique and beautiful, or sharing my techniques with other artists through lessons and workshops to help them along their personal painting journeys. This is made even better knowing that I’ve made a commitment to use my art to give back. Whether its by donating a portion of proceeds from all my sales to charities helping animals in need to auctioning off paintings for hurricane relief donations, I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to follow my dreams and do so in a productive and empowering way.

Finally, I cannot express my gratitude fully for the amazing support my followers and subscribers provide. The positivity generated by my community has been unspeakably amazing, and I am thankful every single day for the wonderful fellow artists and art lovers who I’ve been lucky enough to bring along with me on my journey. Whether in person, online, or via social media, every interaction with this community brings me so much happiness, and I can’t thank you enough for joining me.

I do my best to live every day with an attitude of gratitude, but it’s wonderful to pause and take a few extra minutes as Thanksgiving approaches to reflect on all the joy in my life. Thank you for your part in this. Happy Thanksgiving!
