Reinventing Yourself - At Any Age!

It is truly never too late to follow your dreams. Every day is a new opportunity to chase after the goals that you were not able to achieve the day before. Embracing life and having the confidence and self-assuredness to pursue your path fearlessly is the key to feeling satisfied, fulfilled, and accomplished, and is much more attainable than most people realize.

I chose to reinvent myself after a prosperous and successful real estate career. I’m infinitely grateful for the opportunities awarded to me and the experiences I gained as I followed this path, as this offered me the chance to travel and to see parts of the world I hadn’t previously been able to. I gained a sense of wonder and bewilderment, appreciating different cultures, landscapes, and animal habitats. Ultimately, while my job offered me these opportunities, my lifelong dream was to pursue a career as an artist. I made the decision to, instead of following a leisurely path of retirement, reinvent myself as a painter. Days that were once filled with housing tours are now filled with canvases, paints, and studios. I have traded in a real estate practice for a painting practice, and have subsequently added to my overall joy.

A few motivational practices and principles have guided and helped me in my personal reinvention. While everyone follows a different path, taking the first step in a new direction can be extremely intimidating, and I hope to offer whatever encouragement and experience I can. Here are just a few of my personal suggestions to help you follow the path you’ve always wanted to embark upon.

  1. Identify your goal. What would you be pursuing in your life if you were not afraid of failure? Embrace the thing that tugs on your heart, and examine the reason for that being the case. In my case, that thing was painting and artistry. I wanted to devote my days to creating images that would bring other people happiness. I craved the chance to expose others to my joyful painting style.
  2. Identify several concrete steps you can take towards that goal. How can you materialize that dream? Once I identified my desire to share my love for painting, I began taking the steps towards doing so. I commenced cultivating my painting business and curating workshops to allow others the opportunity to paint joyfully and colorfully.
  3. Dedicate your time towards those concrete steps. For me, that has meant devoting a portion of every day towards painting, collaborating with a business coach, building a website, showcasing my work, and teaching local workshops.
  4. Keep track of and take pride in your journey. Reinventing yourself can be scary. Looking back on your progress is a fulfilling and satisfying reminder of the work you’re doing to better yourself and live your life to its fullest!

Finally, I’ll leave you with a few quotes that hopefully leave you invigorated and motivated!

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” - Arthur Ashe

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you have decided to be.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
