Creativity, Clarity & Connection in the Studio and Beyond

November brings a beautiful shift in my studio—a blend of creative flow and focused preparation as I get ready for exhibitions in Palm Beach, Delray Beach, and Stuart, FL. New paintings are drying, ideas are unfolding across my worktables, and the last marks of the year are beginning to take shape.

Many imagine an artist’s world as purely intuitive, but the truth is that a successful studio practice relies on both sides of the brain:

  • The creative, instinctive, emotion-driven side that moves the brush

  • And the analytical, strategic side that charts deadlines, organizes inventory, plans exhibits, and keeps everything running smoothly.

This balance—imagination with intention—is what allows the art to flow while the business grows. And this month, I’m sharing insights for both my fellow artists and my collectors.

For the Artists: 3 Ways to Stay Fresh Creatively (Even With a Busy Schedule)

With the holidays approaching or anytime of the year that you are busy with exhibits underway, it’s easy to feel stretched thin. Here are simple, powerful ways to keep your creativity vibrant:

1. Keep a weekly pocket of playful creativity.

Not every moment in the studio needs to be productive. Spend time making marks, collaging, or creating color swatches. It keeps your imagination flexible and your curiosity alive.

2. Step away to reset your senses.

A nature walk, a quiet pause, or even reorganizing your studio creates mental space for fresh ideas to surface. Creativity thrives on breath, not pressure.

3. Use your analytical side to protect your creative one.

Gentle scheduling, project mapping, and organizing materials give your creativity room to flow without overwhelm. Structure doesn’t stifle—it supports.

For Art Collectors: 3 Tips for Choosing Artwork With Confidence

Selecting art for your home should be inspiring, not intimidating. Here are three simple ways to make the process meaningful and enjoyable:

1. Visit your local galleries and trust your emotional response.

If a piece captures your attention, lingers in your mind, or simply makes you feel something—that’s your intuition speaking.

2. Ask for an in-home preview or hanging consultation.

All three galleries that represent my work offer free in-home placements. This is one of the most helpful services for collectors—allowing you to see how a painting feels in your space before purchasing.

3. Consider how you want the space to feel.

Art has the power to shift a room’s mood—calm, energize, uplift, or ground it. Knowing the feeling you want to create will guide you toward the right piece.

Closing Thoughts

This season invites us to embrace both sides of creativity—expressive and analytical, intuitive and intentional. Whether you’re an artist navigating your own practice or a collector seeking a meaningful addition to your home, we’re all connected by the same desire to bring more beauty into our world.
