Mid-Year Muse: Reignite Your Artistic Goals & Passions

Now is the perfect moment to reflect on the creative journey we’ve taken so far this year. Whether you’re a working artist or an enthusiastic collector, mid-year is a powerful checkpoint—not just for reviewing goals, but for reconnecting with your why.

For Artists: Progress & Presence

This year may have begun with a list of creative intentions: finish a new body of work, exhibit in fresh venues, or expand your teaching practice. Wherever you are on that path, remember, progress is rarely linear.

Here are two ways artists I know (and maybe you, too) are measuring success so far this year:

1. Hosting or attending workshops

Workshops—whether you’re leading them or participating—spark fresh ideas, help refine your voice, and connect you with a vibrant community. They’re a meaningful checkpoint for creative growth.

2. Exhibiting or applying to new shows

Every submission, every studio visit, every step toward putting your work out into the world—counts. Whether accepted or still in progress, it means you’re showing up for your practice.

For Collectors: Curiosity & Connection

Art collectors are storytellers too—curating with care, often led by instinct or an emotional connection. Maybe this year started with the goal of supporting more artists, adding depth to your collection, or simply engaging more deeply with the art world.

Here are two ways many collectors are making an impact this year:

1. Visiting artists in their studios or at shows

A studio visit or one-on-one conversation with an artist often reveals so much more than the work itself—it creates a lasting connection to the story behind the piece.

2. Acquiring with intention

Maybe you’ve added a piece that reflects a place you visited, a moment in time, or simply brings you joy. When collecting is led by meaning, every acquisition feels purposeful.

A Personal Note on Creative Timing

As for me, the end of summer has always been the time I check in with my creative compass. I meet with an artist friend to review where we’ve been and dream about what’s ahead—new collaborations, winter exhibitions, and fresh releases that bring together inspiration from the year so far.

 And Now, Over to You

However this year has unfolded so far, know that it’s okay to shift, to slow down, or to start again. This isn’t about perfection—it’s about staying connected to what lights you up.

Whether you’re painting in layers or curating your collection piece by piece, your creative journey matters.

Wherever you are on your path, I hope you take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come—and give yourself permission to move forward with renewed inspiration.
