Rotate Your Art Collection with a Seasonal Art Wall

Displaying Your Art Collection isn’t “Set It and Forget It”

I think that most art collectors hang and display their artwork and then leave it in that display for years and years, only changing it when something major happens like a move or repainting the home. I get it: Hanging art involves making decisions, measuring, creating holes in the walls—all things that many of us find a bit uncomfortable. And yet when we “set it and forget it,” it’s all too easy to literally forget it. We pass the art every day and no longer truly see it!

Changing up your art display causes you to take notice. It gives your art a chance to be in the spotlight. Not only will you gain a better appreciation for your art collection, but your guests will also better appreciate your artwork. You can also intersperse your family photos with the art, since they also get ignored when they are in a static placement.

Try a Seasonal Art Wall

You may be rolling your eyes at the idea of shifting around all of your art all over your house. No need to take on that large-scale project if you’re not called to! I suggest that you take a wall that’s in a frequently-used part of your home and use it as a rotating seasonal art wall. It’s like you’re a gallery and you’re changing up the display four to five times a year) to showcase different pieces.

Consider creating a collection with bright artwork that reflects the colors of the summer season. What a great time to highlight any floral artwork you may have as well as family photos of summer weddings, trips, and more.

In the fall, you may decide to go for a collection of your earthy-colored artwork to set the mood, perhaps including a collection of landscapes and landscape photographs from trips you’ve taken.

You can use whatever theme, color palette, or size constraint that appeals to you (for example, maybe one season you’ll showcase small art and another season display large works.

Art Collecting is a Creative Pursuit

I think that art collecting is a creative activity that we all can pursue, no matter what our budget is. And choices about displaying our precious art and personal photos are a big part of expressing our own creativity and personality. This can be intellectually fulfilling while maximizing your enjoyment of your art collection.
